I was asked to decorate a classic Fisher-Price toy for a charity auction comng up in October.
I grew up near where Fisher Price used to be really based, in East Aurora, NY, though now it is only corporate headquarters. When I was small they used to actually make toys there.
Anyway, the space blazer is basically a space ship that you pull by the cord and the cocpit spins and dings while the wheels clack away and make parents quickly lose their minds. I decided to make it a "girly" space blazer out of some kind of sense of irony. when I was around 7 or 8 they asked me to be a "toy tester" (which sounds awesome and special but i kinda think a lot of kids in our school got to do that, living so close to the factory). Anyhow, I was given a playset of plastic lipsticks and hairbrushes and barrettes and asked to play with it.... and I HATED it. I had very fine, like baby-fine hair when i was little and barrettes didn't stick, and I was more of a "toy trucks" kinda girl anyway, so I was sitting there with another little girl looking at a pile of girly crap and asking for plastic dinosaurs or crayons or something.
My favorite part of this space blazer is the phrase around the cockpit. in case you can't read it or never teased (or were teased) in gradeschool, it says "Girls go to Mars, and they get candybars. Boys go to Jupiter and get stupider adn stupider!"
lol... good that you have a sense of humor about it, my husband got sensitive about it and was all mopey for a day. "boys aren't all stupid"... of course dear, of course.
